Four Dogwoof films on DOC NYC Shortlist 2016

Each year DOC NYC releases a Short List which has a history of being a huge predictor of other awards. In 2015 the DOC NYC shortlist had ten titles that were on the Oscar Documentary Short List and included all five of the final nominees. Dogwoof is ecstatic that this year's shortlist includes four Dogwoof titles: Jim: The James Foley Story, Mapplethorpe: Look at the Pictures, Weiner and Life, Animated. All four films premiered at the 2016 Sundance Film Festival. For the full shortlist and more about the list visit docnyc.net

Jim: The James Foley Story

A film by Brian Oakes

Winner of the US Doc Audience Award at Sundance 2016
In August, 2014, a video of the public execution of American photojournalist James Foley rippled across the globe. The video challenged the world to deal with a new face of terror and it tested one American family.

Life, Animated

A film by Roger Ross Williams

Winner of Sundance Directing Award, U.S. Documentary
Life, Animated tells the remarkable story of how Owen Suskind, a boy diagnosed with Autism, found in Disney animation a pathway to language and a framework for making sense of the world.

Mapplethorpe: Look at the Pictures

A film by Fenton Bailey and Randy Barbato

The only thing more outrageous than Robert Mapplethorpe's photographs was his life. This is the portrait of an artist who turned contemporary photography into a fine art, with a vision that created a culture war, still raging to this day.

Weiner

A film by Josh Kriegman and Elyse Steinberg

Winner of the US Doc Grand Jury Prize at Sundance 2016
With unprecedented access to his family and his campaign team, Weiner documents the dramatic and painfully funny political meltdown of Anthony Weiner, a New York mayoral candidate.
