Blackfish wins the Audience Award at Green Film Festival in Seoul!

May 14th, 2013

News just in from the Green Film Festival in Seoul, South Korea. Blackfish has been announced as the winner of the festival’s Audience Award.

The festival marked the film’s Asian premiere, and the screenings were attended by producer Manny Oteyza, and Samantha Berg, one of the ex-sea-world trainers featured in the film.

Blackfish tells the story of Tilikum, a performing whale that killed several people while in captivity. Along the way, director-producer Gabriela Cowperthwaite compiles shocking footage and emotional interviews to explore the creature’s dual nature, the lives and losses of the trainers and the pressures brought to bear by the sea-park industry.

Blackfish also screened recently at HotDocs, Canada, and Docville in Belguim. The next festival the film is heading to is Cineambiente in Italy at the end of May.
